THE START OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP: HOW NEW PRIVACY LEGISLATION IS RESHAPING CYBER SECURITY
May 2018 marked a change for privacy and cyber security professionals. When the EU’s GDPR went into effect, it set off a chain reaction around the globe as more countries released their own revamped privacy laws. That same month, NIST released a significant update to its Risk Management Framework (RMF) that included a greater focus on the role of data privacy in cyber security. In late 2018, a second revision of the RMF was published.
These changes are a result of an industry-wide shift pushing for the integration of strong privacy principles with robust security measures to ensure the protection of customer, patient, and employee data.
